Out of a hundred respondents, JustClose.com sent survey questions, more than 80 answered that it would be their living room. Even if your living room is very small you have lots of choices to make it look nice and comfortable. The bad news is that designing small rooms can be too intricate. The good news is that we have some great design ideas for a small living room to make the most of your space. Find out what kind of furniture you should use, where to put it and strike a balance between making the room look larger while being able to provide extra seating. Well, let’s get started.

Mirrors: Use mirrors strategically to decorate your living room to get the illusion of a larger space. A well-placed mirror will also pull in extra light. The best solution could be placing a large window across from the window to make it look like there is another window.

Hidden/built-in storage: In a small living room each piece of furniture must be positioned in the right place as we’re saying deserve it keep. So you can’t use big shelves or bookcases. A sofa with hidden storage is a perfect solution. You should also use every nook and cranny. A build in the shelf from the floor to the ceiling could contain everything from your favorite souvenir to books.

Coffee table: Rethink use of the coffee table. Get rid of the traditional one you might have. When buying a coffee table consider its visual weight. Make sure your table has a lightweight appearance. You may use two African drum tables or a glass coffee table. Avoid boxy tables and pick up pieces that have legs. Also, choose pale coloring over darker ones. That will not obstruct views and will make a room feel more wide and open.

Plants: Plants are another great way to add depth to your living room. Much green will fill corners and will make an optical illusion that the room is larger than it really is. Besides, flowers and plants soften the corners. You could hang a few small pots for flowers on the wall. That’s a good idea for decorating empty walls.

Curtains: For a small living room there is another trick to make it look larger – hanging curtains from the ceiling instead of directly above the window. This will draw the eye upward and will create the look of extra space. You should also hang the TV on a swing-arm device to make the room appear more spacious.

Walls: Decorate your walls strategically. In a small living room, your artwork should be brought up to trick the eye and accentuate the height of the room. Don’t be afraid to hang too many pictures on the wall. That will only help you make your living room look larger.

Sofa: Hardly anyone can imagine a living room without a sofa. So this is really an important piece of furniture and you should pay enough attention to it. When you shop for furniture, make sure to choose the right sofa. A backless sofa in the middle of the room could be a great idea for a small living room. It can be used from both sides which is a bonus when seating options are limited. Here you have another choice as well: place two sofas back-to-back in the center of the room. A sofa with thin arms is a good idea, too. After all these tricks for a sofa, if your room is even smaller, you may just skip it. Just use two or three armchairs around a coffee table instead.
